The storms of life

My family and I were having a picnic, and it started to rain. As we watched the downpour, we started gathering up our picnic frantically, realizing the rain would reach us within moments.

But it never did!

Weirdly enough, as we watched, the rain continued to fall in a deluge right across the street from us … but not a single drop fell where we were sitting! In a few minutes, the storm moved on, skirting our little picnic area as if there were a protective force field around it.

How often do we have good, sunny days while those who are walking around us (maybe even right in front of us!) are walking through a storm?

It’s so hard to know what people are going through. But that makes it even more important to be kind, understanding, and patient with one another. “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you” (John 15:12).

We pray for one another because some people are walking through storms of unimaginable magnitude, something that’s hard to realize when our “side of the street” is sunny!

“Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress. He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed. They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven” (Psalm 107:28-30).
