This little light of mine

A little boy forgot his lines in a Christmas program. His mother was in the front row to prompt him. She gestured and formed the words silently with her lips, but it did not help. Her son’s memory was blank. Finally, she leaned forward and whispered the cue, “I am the light of the world.” The child beamed and with great emotion, he belted out with a loud, clear voice, “My mother is the light of the world!”

We give thanks to God for the “light” that our mothers have been in our lives. Abraham Lincoln once said that “no man is poor who has had a godly mother.” Mothers who reflect the love of Jesus in their lives to their children are priceless. They shine to everyone around that Jesus is the priceless treasure they cherish.

If you had such a mother, thank God (and thank her while you’re at it!). If you did not, thank God that he has led you to see the true light of Jesus in your life. Thank God that he has made you light in this dark world by removing the darkness of sin from you by his death on a cross. Then, whether you are a mother or a father or a sister or a brother or a child, shine so brightly that others might be led to say, “You are the light of the world!” After all, your Savior does: “You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14).
