Sesame Street is dedicated to helping children learn. The Muppets or cast involved help teach them how to read and write. Every episode is dedicated to a specific word or number. They drill that word into the audience through songs, repetition, or through various skits. Their goal is that by the end of the show, a child will know the word of the day so well that he or she will be able to use it in everyday life.

The apostle Paul reminds us, The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart” (Romans 10:8). Paul drills home to us a different type of word—God’s Holy Word. This Word has implications for our daily lives because it is much more than just a noun or a verb word. It’s an action Word! A Word that leads to our salvation. A Word that calls for a response, and a Word that is intended for all.

Sesame Street ends with something like this: “Today’s show was made possible by the letter or word ______.” They thank and give credit where credit is due. We come together today and give credit where credit is due—to our heavenly Father. Our salvation, our home in heaven, our peace, our joy, and our forgiveness have been brought to us this day and for the rest of our lives by the blood of Jesus Christ. That motivates us to keep this Word near and share this Word far.
