Toxic friendships

I attended a leadership conference as a senior in high school. The speaker focused greatly on the importance of friendships. He kept repeating, “Show me your friends, and I’ll show you your future.”

It’s true. You undoubtedly know people who joined the wrong crowd, wrecking their future. “Show me your friends, and I’ll show you your future” isn’t just a catchy quote. It’s biblical. It’s practical. Proverbs 13:20 declares, “Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.”

When you have a bad day, show me the friends you talk to about that bad day, and I’ll show you your future emotion. Do you surround yourself with negativity? Is your trusted circle quick to judge, get mad, get even, get drunk, get destructive spiritually? “Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.”

Show me your friends, and I’ll show you your future. And if the friend you show me is Jesus, I know your future. It’s an eternal future changed because of Jesus’ love, forgiveness, and guidance. A true friend comes in when the world goes out. That’s Jesus! Jesus came into this world for you! Jesus went to the cross for you! Jesus entered into your heart to save you!

Look at your chosen sphere of influence. Do they pour positivity in forgiveness or negativity by enabling bad choices? What friends uplift you, pointing you to Jesus?

Show me your friends, and I’ll show you your future.
