Tune your ears to hope

Back in 1982, the Wisconsin Badgers played Michigan State in a Big Ten football game on the same day the Milwaukee Brewers played the St. Louis Cardinals in game 4 of the World Series. Since local fans couldn’t be both places at the same time, many attended the football game but listened in on small radios to get the play-by-play of the baseball game, which made for one of the more interesting events of the year. On certain plays where the Badgers were a mess, the fans roared with joy because the radios brought the news of a Brewers’ hit. There was another source of good news that those fans couldn’t see but they could hear.

Sound familiar? If you open your Bible (or Bible app) during the week, you are like those Badger fans in the stands. “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” (Isaiah 40:31).

What you see in front of you might make you weary—an endless list of to-dos, tests, projects, and parenting tasks. But when your ears are tuned in to the promises of God, you have an alternative source of good news. God’s love for you in Christ renews your strength and enables you to walk, run, and eventually soar by the Spirit’s power.

If life is complicated right now, please prioritize time with the “radio” of God’s Word. Your heart will thank you later.
