Every day in Jerusalem, Jewish people gather at the Wailing Wall. Ever heard of it? It’s the western wall of the Temple Mount, the big box that the Jewish temple used to stand upon. In Jesus’ day, the temple represented the presence of God, but in a.d. 70, the Romans ravaged the entire complex, tossing every stone down on the streets below. For the last 1,950 years, the Jews have wailed, missing the place where their God used to live, aching to be reunited with the holy presence of their Lord.

But Christians don’t have to wail. The night before he died, Jesus promised, “I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth” (John 14:16,17). According to Jesus, there is a new holy place—you. Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, the God who is in you and with you forever.

All the wisdom, strength, and power you need to honor God is at your disposal. All the courage to fight against temptation and all the faith to find peace in Jesus’ cross are closer than your breath. Because our Father gladly answered the prayer of his Son and gave you the Spirit of truth. So do not be timid and do not be afraid. You are walking with God!
