There comes a time in your life when you can’t. Despite all your efforts, you can’t control a situation in your family or you can’t solve a problem with your health or you can’t work things out with your siblings. The USS Independence is sinking, and you simply can’t.
But God can! That’s what Matthew learned the day when “[Jesus] got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm” (Matthew 8:26). Can you even imagine this? Jesus wiped his groggy eyes, lifted his divine voice, and shook a commanding finger at the storm . . . and it listened! From grown men screaming for help to a silence so still you could hear Matthew’s breath. “Why are you so afraid?” Jesus can!
Please don’t forget that. While we might not know God’s will or understand his timing, we do know his power. So we can pray, “God, you can bring a good friend into my life today. You can save this marriage, even this marriage, this year. You can change my unrealistic expectations. You can give me peace on unproductive days. You can make my pet sins a part of my past. You can give me the faith to forgive him. You can transform me into a patient parent. You can overcome this addiction. God, you can cure cancer. You can defeat depression. You can leave doctors dumbfounded. You’re God! You’re the omnipotent, all-powerful, can-do-anything God who can calm any storm.”
Pray with boldness as you keep the faith that God can.
