Will God provide?

For the longest time, I was sure there was a biblical promise that God would provide everything I need for my life—that I would always have food on the table, clothes on my back, and a roof over my head. But the more I looked for that promise, the more I realized it wasn’t there.

Yes, God is the provider of all your physical needs. But nowhere does he guarantee that all your physical needs will always be met.

Paul acknowledged that in Romans 8:35. We may go through “trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword.” Ultimately your life will end because one or more physical needs are no longer being met. If you merely look to God as a provider, you will eventually be let down.

But he is more than that. Because of what Jesus did, God is not just the provider. God already provided. Jesus removed the gap between you and the Lord Almighty. Jesus connects with you by faith to bring you into an inheritance that is so much bigger than anything this world can contain.

You don’t have a guarantee that your physical needs will be provided on this side of heaven. But Jesus is the guarantee that even in times of trouble or hardship or famine, “in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us” (Romans 8:37).

Today as you marvel at all that God provides, be thankful that in Jesus, eternal life has already been provided.
