You have the right words

“I just don’t know what to say.” How many of us have had that thought when someone challenges God’s truth? Before Jesus sent them out, the disciples wondered the same thing. Jesus reassured them, “Do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you” (Matthew 10:19,20).

If called on to defend your faith, do you have the right words to speak? The reformer Martin Luther stood before the most powerful man in the world, Emperor Charles V. He was commanded to retract his writings on the Bible, writings that highlighted the Bible’s teaching that we go to heaven by God’s grace alone because of Jesus and what he has done. Yet Luther didn’t need to worry. All he needed to do was let God fight the battle with God’s own powerful Word. We can do the same, even in the face of persecution.

Luther wrote in his hymn “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God”: “Though devils all the world should fill, all eager to devour us, we tremble not, we fear no ill; they shall not overpower us. This world’s prince may still scowl fierce as he will. He can harm us none. He’s judged; the deed is done! One little word can fell him.”

One little word of God is more powerful than all the attacks of the devil. You have the right words!
