The joy of a couple becoming pregnant is soon replaced with morning sickness. Then pregnancy tiredness. Then a baby convinced that the world revolves around her. “What did we get ourselves into?” they wonder wearily.
Over the years, they are blessed with three more children, a rescue dog, and some goldfish. After the kids graduate, the empty nesters look back with pleasant appreciation. “How did we manage all that?” they sigh with grateful smiles.
What are you facing today that seems overwhelming? Do you have what it takes to do it well? Someday you’ll look back on it and see it as Jesus sees it now. You will sigh with a grateful smile and say, “How did I do that?”
Jesus will say, “Well done, good and faithful servant!” (Matthew 25:21).
How can you do it? Today’s overwhelming task or broken relationship or controlling addiction or dead-end job. Do you have what it takes? Yes.
If Jesus tells you that you’re faithful, that means you need something to be faithful with. Something to be responsible for. Something he gives you.
Jesus equips you with everything it takes to do everything he asks. Be faithful with these gifts. Be as good as Jesus, in his grace, is equipping you to be.
Now read Matthew 25:14-30. Compare and contrast the two servants who receive the affirmation, “Well done,” to the “wicked, lazy” servant. The faithful servants see their task as God’s work. Do you?
