When I typed the words call/called/calling into a Bible search engine, I learned there are over 750 Bible verses on the subject that focus on two “calls” that every Christian has in common.
You have a call to a gospel-given identity: “To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be his holy people” (Romans 1:7). If you ever doubt who you are at your very core, remember what God calls you. He calls you loved and holy and so much more! (Read 1 Peter 2:9,10 if you didn’t smile when you looked in the mirror this morning.)
At other times our call is to obedience: “For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life” (1 Thessalonians 4:7). If you are searching for purpose, don’t pray and wait for a whisper, because your call is clear. You are called, no matter where you live, what you do, and who you are, to live a holy life.
You don’t need to preach Jesus in a jungle. Just be like Jesus wherever you are. Be a patient driver after church. Be humble enough to listen and communicate well when you disagree with a family member. Show up to work on time, do your job faithfully, and be someone your boss can trust. That’s your calling. This is the holy life that God has called you to.
Are you called by God? Every Christian is. Called holy by the blood of Jesus and called to live a holy life for the name of Christ.
