The most important day of your life

By Pastor Matt Ewart

Of all the days you’ve been on the earth, which one would you point to as the most important of them all? Your birthday? Your baptism? Your graduation day? The day you met the person who changed everything?

I am sure there are several days competing for the title of “most important,” but what if you lived as if the most important day of your life is today? In many ways, it is.

Jesus cautioned people about missing the significance of today. No amount of anxiety about the future will extend your life. No amount of dreaming or ruminating about the past will change where you are right now.

The past is gone. God hasn’t given you tomorrow yet. All you have is a series of “right nows” that accumulate to shape the trajectory of your life.

Today is a beautiful gift from your gracious Father in heaven. He wants his Word to soak deeply within your soul to transform you from within. Today his Spirit wants his fruits of faith to grow in you in visible ways. Today Jesus wants to apply his unconditional love to your sin in a way that leaves you in awe of his grace.

Live every today as if it is the most important day of your life. In many ways, it is.

“But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called ‘Today,’ so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness” (Hebrews 3:13).
