As we navigate the complexities of life, it’s crucial to ground ourselves in the unchanging truth of God’s Word. The Book of Revelation, the final book of the Bible, offers us profound insights into the heart of God and the future He has prepared for us. One of the book’s most significant messages is a stern warning about how we handle Scripture. Are you carefully preserving the integrity of the Bible, or inadvertently tearing it apart by adding or subtracting from its truth?

Preserving the Purity of God’s Word

In Revelation 22, Jesus issues a powerful command: “If anyone adds anything to them, I will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll.” This warning underscores the importance of maintaining the purity of Scripture. God’s Word is complete and sufficient, and He does not want us to embellish it with our interpretations or requirements. Adding to God’s Word can lead us away from the truth, fostering beliefs that distort His plan for salvation. Instead, we are called to trust in the Bible as it stands, embracing its teachings and promises in their entirety.

The Danger of Subtracting from Scripture

Conversely, Jesus warns against taking words away from the Bible. “God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life,” He says. This is a sobering reminder of the eternal consequences of dismissing parts of Scripture that we find inconvenient or outdated. God’s Word is designed to guide and transform us, and every part holds value and purpose. By disregarding or diminishing any portion, we risk losing the full picture of God’s redemptive work through Christ.

Reflecting on Our Own Lives

It is easy to point fingers at others who may be altering God’s Word to suit their desires, but what about us? When we choose to ignore God’s commands in favor of our preferences, we are, in essence, tearing pages out of the Bible. Whether it’s harboring anger, engaging in relationships outside of His design, or any other form of disobedience, we must recognize our actions as a departure from His truth. This self-awareness is the first step toward realigning our lives with His Word.

The Call to Confession and Restoration

We all fall short of God’s standards, but there is hope in confession. When we acknowledge our failures before Jesus, we open the door to His forgiveness and grace. The beauty of the Book of Revelation is its declaration of victory. Jesus has already won the battle against sin and death, securing our place with Him forever. By confessing our sins and trusting in His victory, we can rest assured in His unchanging promise that we are His.

Revelation is not just a book of prophecy and judgment; it is a celebration of triumph. As you meditate on its truths, remember that Jesus wins, and through Him, you are more than conquerors. Hold fast to His Word, and let it guide your life with the assurance of His love and victory.
